Strategic Survey 2008 Press Launch at the IISS-UK
Strategic Survey 2008 will be launched on Thursday 18 September 2008 from 10:30-11:30am.
Dr John Chipman, IISS Director-General and Chief Executive, will introduce the book and a panel of IISS experts will answer questions.
Strategic Survey 2008 assesses global developments over the year to mid-2008, and this year’s essays on strategic policy issues cover intelligence reform in the United States and the United Kingdom. The book analyses developments in all regions of the world and concludes with a brief strategic outlook for the coming year. It includes a chronology of key events and a 20-page section of colour maps.
This year’s strategic Survey examines key geopolitical trends around the world and contains a detailed appreciation of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the standoff in Iran, the deteriorating relationship between Russia and the West, and provides comprehensive analysis of security trends internationally. Against the background of the triple shock in the oil, food and credit markets and the uncertainty about US leadership given the presidential election, many countries were inwardly focussed , and diplomatic breakthroughs on key issues were rare or temporary.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies, an international think tank based in London, is the premier independent authority on political and military conflict. It produces publications including the annual publications Military Balance and Strategic Survey, the bimonthly Survival: Global Politics and Strategy and the monthly Strategic Comments, as well as the Adelphi Papers series of monographs and the Armed Conflict Database.
The press launch will take place in the fifth floor conference room at Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX .
