On Tuesday 5 February 2008, the IISS launched The Military Balance 2008, the annual assessment of the military capabilities and defence economics of 170 countries world-wide. The launch was from 10.30-11.30am.
The book is a region-by-region analysis of the major military and economic trends and developments affecting defence and security policies and the trade in weapons and other military equipment. Comprehensive tables portray major military training events and give key data on weapons and defence economics. Defence expenditure trends over a 10 year period are also shown.
A detailed press statement was made by Dr John Chipman, Director-General of the IISS. Dr Chipman, along with James Hackett, Editor of The Military Balance and other senior IISS staff members then took questions for 35-40 minutes.
This meeting took place on the Fifth Floor at Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX. All guests were requested to take their seats by 10.15 am.
Technical experts were on hand to assist.
