Air Marshal (Ret'd) Masood

On Thursday 14 February 2008, Air Marshal (Ret'd) Masood (Pakistan Air Force) will lead a discussion meeting on the topic of "The Role of Air Power in Counter Insurgency – Pakistan's Experience in the Tribal Region" from 2-3 pm.

 

Pakistan’s forces are battling a Taliban insurgency in the tribal area of the Afghan border in which hundreds have been killed in recent weeks. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is playing an important role in this on-going counter insurgency campaign.  

 

Air Marshal Masood has been a fighter pilot for 35 years and has over 2500 hours of flying experience on a variety of PAF fighter and training aircraft. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and has commanded an Electronic Warfare Squadron, a Fighter Wing and a Fighter Base. His higher level appointments include Director Surveillance Targeting and Analysis, Director General Air Intelligence and Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Training) at PAF Air Headquarters.  He was Commandant Air War College and Chief Instructor of the National Defence Course at the National Defence University (NDU).  He lectures on 'Air Power Doctrine and Strategy' at various Military Staff and War Colleges. Air Marshal Masood has a Masters Degree in War Studies from Islamabad University. He is a graduate of the Turkish Air War College and Armed Forces War Course at the NDU.

 

This meeting will be chaired by Andrew Brookes (IISS Aerospace Analyst) and will be held on the Fifth Floor at Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX.
