On Tuesday 4 September 2007 the Hon Prof G L Peiris, Minister of Export Development and International Trade, Sri Lanka, will lead a discussion on "The Conflict in Sri Lanka: Challenges & Opportunities" from 12 noon - 1pm.
 
The Hon Prof G L Peiris, MP is the Minister of Export Development and International Trade of Sri Lanka.  He was the leader of the Government Delegation for six rounds of talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam from September 2002–March 2003, and the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms.  A Member of Parliament since 1994, he has also been the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Minister of Ethnic Affairs and National Integration, and Minister of Enterprise Development, Investment Promotion and Industrial Policy. 
 
In his distinguished academic career, Prof Peiris has been the Professor of Law, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo. He has also been a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford and Distinguished Visiting Fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge. He is the author of 12 books and over 75 papers published in international journals. He was educated at Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar from 1968–1971.
