17 Apr 07 - Discussion Meeting - Alexei Pushkov

On Tuesday 17 April 2007Mr Alexei Pushkov will lead a discussion on 'Russian Foreign Policy Priorities' at 2pm.
President Putin’s speech in Munich signalled a new direction in Russian Foreign Policy, which emphasises Russia’s independent role and its readiness to challenge the US and the West in general on a number of key issues form the Middle East to the Balkans.

In the middle of March the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a “Review of the Russian Federation’s Foreign Policy” a lengthy document of over 100 pages which expands on Putin’s speech to bring a comprehensive vision to Russia’s new role in the world, as well as its new vision of key international trends.

To help us better understand these new priorities and visions we are delighted to host Alexei Pushkov, a well know Russian expert and the anchor of the most popular TV programme “Post Scriptum” which in many ways shapes Russian public perception of international events.

Mr Pushkov is also a Professor at the Moscow State Institute of International relations, Member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation and Member of the Board of the influential Council of Foreign and Defence Policy.  He is the author of over 400 articles and often appears in international press and media.

This meeting will begin at 2pm and will take place at the IISS, Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, WC2R 3DX. The meeting is scheduled to finish at 3.30pm and questions will be invited from the floor.
