18 Sep 06 - Discussion Meeting - Dr Nora Bensahel

On Monday 18 September 2006 Dr Nora Bensahel, Senior Political Scientist at RAND, will lead a discussion on “Stabilisation and Counterinsurgency in Iraq”  from 4-5pm.
Dr Bensahel is an expert on post-conflict reconstruction, military strategy, Middle East security and military coalitions.  She took her Ph.D. at Stanford University, 1999, and holds degrees in Political Science from Stanford University, 1995 and in Government and Russian Studies from Cornell University, 1993.
 
Her recent work has examined post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan and Iraq, military coalitions, and multilateral intervention.  Her current publications include The Counterterror Coalitions: Cooperation with Europe, NATO, and the European Union, and The Future Security Environment in the Middle East.
 
Dr Bensahel has held fellowships at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University, and the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the Security Studies Program at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University.  Dr Bensahel is also affiliated with the International Studies Association, Women in International Security and is a Member of the Council for Foreign Relations.
 
The meeting will take place on the 4th Floor at Arundel House, 13 -15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX.  Tea and coffee will be served from 3.45pm and the talk will begin at 4pm and conclude at 5pm. Sir Hilary Synnott, IISS Consulting Senior Fellow Iraq, South Asia and Nuclear Strategic matters, will chair the meeting and questions and comments will be invited from the floor.
