25 May 06 - Address - Mr Shyam Saran

On Thursday 25 May 2006 Mr Shyam Saran, Foreign Secretary, Governmant of India, will speak on "India and the Emerging World Order" at Arundel House from 4.30 pm. After the talk there will be a Q&A session and the meeting will finish at 5.30pm.
 
Mr Shyam Saran was appointed Foreign Secretary to the Government of India on 1 August 2004. As India's senior-most diplomat for nearly two years, he has played a key decision-making role in the foreign policy of a rising global power. He has also held important Ambassadorial appointments in India's neighbourhood and served in key positions in the Indian government.
Prior to his appointment as Foreign Secretary, Mr Saran served as India's Ambassador to Nepal from November 2002-July 2004. Earlier, he was India's Ambassador to Indonesia (August 2001-October 2002), Myanmar (April 1997-July 2001) and Mauritius (1992-1997). He also served as Deputy Chief of the Indian Embassy in Tokyo and Charge d'Affairs of the Indian Embassy in Beijing. His appointments in Delhi have included Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (responsible for External Affairs, Defence and Atomic Energy) and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs for Economic Affairs, Multilateral Economic Relations and East Asia.
