On Monday 26 June 2006 Mikhail Kasyanov, former Russian Prime Minister, will deliver a talk on "Russia's G8 Presidency: Challenges and Opportunites". The talk will begin at 11.00am and afterwards questions and comments will be invited from the floor. The meeting is scheduled to last one and a half hours.
The former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov will be in London, just three weeks before world leaders gather in St Petersburg for the G8 Summit, to give his insight and analysis about the G8 agenda and his evaluation of the state of Russia: the economy, the health of Russian democracy and Russia's business, energy and political relationships with the international community.
Born in 1957, Mikhail Kasyanov graduated from Moscow's Automobile and Road Institute and later worked at Gosplan, the Soviet Union's economic planning agency. He worked in Russia's Economics Ministry from 1990 to 1993, when he joined the Finance Ministry, later taking responsibility for Russia's debt negotiation. At the Ministry of Finance he became Deputy Minister, then First Deputy Minister and finally Minister of Finance in May 1999. Mr Kasyanov then became Prime Minister of Russia in 2000 and remained in that position until 2004. Mr Kasyanov is now President of MK Analytica consulting company. He has announced his willingness to challenge for the Russian presidency in 2008. In April 2006 he became Chairman of the public political movement "People's Democratic Union".
