On Thursday 27 April 2006 Michael Gordon, Chief Military Correspondent for The New York Times, will be speaking on his book Cobra II: The Inside Story of the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq from 1.30pm.
Gordon, who spent the war with the Allied land command, co-authored the book with Bernard E. Trainor, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant general and former director of the National Security Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, Cobra II traces the interactions among the generals, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and President George W. Bush. It dramatically reconstructs the principal battles from interviews with those who fought them.
Michael R. Gordon has worked at The New York Times since 1985. He is also the coauthor, with Trainor, of The Generals’ War. He has covered the Iraq War, the American intervention in Afghanistan, the Kosovo conflict, the Russian war in Chechnya, the 1991 Persian Gulf War, and the American invasion of Panama.
Discussion Meetings take place at Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, WC2R 3DX. This meeting will take place in the Fifth Floor meeting room. There will be a 30 minute presentation followed by 30 minutes discussion.
