On Friday 30 September 2005 Major General (retd.) Muhammed Anwar Khan, President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), lead a discussion on "Prospects for Kashmir". This event took place between 11am - 12 noon.
Major General (retd.) Muhammad Anwar Khan was elected President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) in August 2001. By virtue of this office, he is also the Vice Chairman of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir Council, whose Chairman is the President of Pakistan.
Sardar Anwar Khan joined the Pakistan Army in 1966 and was commissioned in the Azad Kashmir Regiment. He is a graduate of the Command & Staff College Quetta, Naval Staff College, Karachi, and the National Defence College, Islamabad. He also attended the US Army War College in Pennsylvania, from where he received a Master's Degree in War Studies.
During a distinguished 35-year army career, he held various important staff commands and instructional appointments. He commanded two infantry battalions, a brigade, and as Major General, was in charge of two infantry divisions. As a young officer, he also actively participated in the 1971 India-Pakistan war in the Kashmir sector. He retired from the army as Vice Chief of General Staff.
