30 Sep 2005 - Discussion Meeting - Mats Berdal

On Friday 30 September 2005 Mats Berdal, Professor of Security and Development in the Department of War Studies at Kings College in London, will be speaking on "The UN World Summit: An Assessment". The event will start at 1.30pm.
Mats Berdal is Professor of Security and Development in the Department of War Studies at King's College, London.  From 1999 to 2003 he was a Director of Studies at the IISS.  He is a member of the editorial board of Global Governance: A Review of Multilateral and International Organizations, and is an Associate Fellow of the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies in Oslo.  His many publications include in the recent issue of Survival "The UN's Unnecessary Crisis".
 
He is in the process of completing The UN and the Search for International Order, a book that covers the immediate post-Cold War period and focuses in particular on the UN's involvement in the mitigation, containment and resolution of civil wards. He is also working on an Adelphi Paper for the IISS examining the relationship between security and development in international relations.  Other current research interests include Philip Windsor's contribution to the study of International Relations, in particular his ideas on strategy and war.  Berdal recently edited a collection of Windsor's essays, book reviews and articles (Studies in International Relations: Essays by Philip Windsor) which was published in December 2002.
