28 Nov 2005 - The Brigadier Kenneth Hunt Memorial Seminar

On Monday 28 November 2005 Mr Adam Ward chaired a seminar on "Japan's Security in an Uncertain World" from 1.30-3pm. The speakers were: HE Mr Yoshiji Nogami,  Mr Makio Miyagawa, Dr John Swenson-Wright, and Dr Christopher W. Hughes.
  • Chairman: Mr Adam Ward is the IISS Senior Fellow for East Asian Security and the Editor of Strategic Comments
  • HE Mr Yoshiji Nogami is the Ambassador of Japan in London
  • Mr Makio Miyagawa is the Director of The Japan Institute for International Affairs in Tokyo
  • Dr John Swenson-Wright is The Fuji Bank University Lecturer in Modern Japanese Studies and Fellow of Darwin College at Cambridge
  • Dr Christopher W. Hughes is Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation, University of Warwick
 
As Deputy Director of the IISS, the late Brigadier Kenneth Hunt was for many years closely involved in UK-Japanese relations and in developing cooperation between the Japanese and British security studies communities. In order to mark his major contribution in this field, the IISS is delighted to present a wide-ranging seminar on key issues confronting Japan’s policy-makers. A number of distinguished speakers will address topics, including Japan’s relations with the Middle East and with East Asia; Japan’s dealings with multilateral institutions such as the UN; and recent important developments in Japanese defence policy.   
  
The Brigadier Kenneth Hunt Memorial Seminar has been supported by the Great Britain-Sasakawa Foundation and will take place at Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, WC2R 3DX.  This meeting will be held in the Fifth Floor meeting room.  Members who would like to attend are asked to notify Kathleen James at james@iiss.org or tel +44 (0)20 7395 9109.
