On Friday 18 November 2005 Lt. General Syed Arif Hasan (retd.), Managing Director, Fauji Foundation, Pakistan, lead a talk on "Military Disengagement in Siachen: Problems and Prospects". This event took place from 2-3pm.
General Hasan has had a distinguished career in the Pakistan army. Commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1970, he commanded an Infantry Division and was Vice Chief of General Staff at General Headquarters. In October 2001, he assumed command of 10 Corps - deployed in Azad Kashmir and the Northern Areas (including Siachen). In October 2003, he was appointed Military Secretary at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
On retirement from the Pakistan army last month, General Hasan was appointed Managing Director of the Fauji Foundation, a trust for the welfare and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and their families. General Arif is also Chairman of the Pakistan Polo Association and the Pakistan Olympic Association.
