8 Nov 2005 - Special Round Table Discussion - Lt General (retd.) V.R. Raghavan

On Tuesday 8 November 2005 Lt General (retd.) V.R. Raghavan, Director of the Delhi Policy Group in India, lead a discussion on "The Siachen Glacier: Prospects for Military Disengagement?” This event took place between 4pm and 5pm.
General Raghavan has had a distinguished military career, including serving as the Commanding General of Siachen and the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) for the Indian army. He was closely involved in a series of negotiations with Pakistan on the dispute over the Siachen Glacier, and with China on the Accord on maintaining peace on the borders. He also made a significant contribution to the strategic planning and field force management of the service.
 
Since retirement, General Raghavan has written several books and monographs on Indian military and security issues, including an authoritative account of the Siachen Conflict (2003). He is a Member of the IISS Council, and in February 2004, was appointed a Member of the Hans Blix Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction.
 
The discussion meeting will be held in the 4th floor room at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX.
