Over the last decade an advisory group of retired admirals and generals has come together to examine the intersection of national security, the changing energy landscape and climate change.

In this panel discussion members of the CNA Military Advisory Board addressed changing energy and water security as potential threat multipliers for fragile regions of the world.

General (Retd) Donald Hoffman served for 38 years in the US Air Force. His last active duty assignment was Commander, Air Force Materiel Command. He also served as the Military Deputy for Air Force Acquisition in the Pentagon and as the Director of Requirements at Air Combat Command.

Vice Admiral (Retd) Lee Gunn served for 35 years in the US Navy. His last assignment was as the Inspector General of the Department of the Navy. He also served as the Combined Naval Forces Commander and Deputy Task Force Commander of Operation United Shield, which conducted the withdrawal of United Nations peacekeeping forces from Somalia. He now runs The Gunn Group, a consultancy based in Washington DC.

Rear Admiral (Retd) Neil Morisetti served for 36 years in the British Royal Navy. His last active duty appointment was as the UK’s Climate and Energy Security Envoy, whereby he engaged with policymakers around the world to address the security implications, national and global, of climate change. He is now an Honorary Professor at University College London.
