“The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is delighted that Prime Minister Modi has accepted the IISS’s invitation to open to the 17th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue on 1 June 2018, as announced by Singapore’s PM, Lee Esien Loong, in his speech at yesterday’s closing ceremony for the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila.

The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, organised and convened by the IISS in Singapore annually since 2002, is the region’s premier defence summit, bringing together defence ministers, military chiefs and top-ranking defence officials from across the Asia-Pacific and other countries vitally concerned with the region’s security.

Tim Huxley, Executive Director of IISS-Asia, commented:

“We are very pleased that Prime Minister Modi will speak at the Shangri-La Dialogue next year. The decision of India’s Prime Minister to speak to defence and security leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region underlines the importance of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. We know Prime Minister Modi’s speech will be eagerly anticipated in the region.”
