On Monday 2 July 2007, General Joginder Jaswant Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC (Chairman, Chiefs of Staffs Committee & Chief of the Army Staff, India) gave a presenation on "Indian Armed Forces: Present and Future Perspectives" as part of the Military Leaders Forum.
General J.J. Singh took over as the Chief of the Indian Army on 31 January 2005 and was appointed as the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee on 1 April 2007.
Earlier, General J.J. Singh served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command at Chandimandir and as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command in Simla in 2003. In the latter appointment, he focused on the modernisation of training in the Army and laid out the vision for a modern and progressive future army.
General J. J. Singh also held other prestigious command and staff appointments, including as the Additional Director General, Military Operations, during Operation VIJAY in the summer of 1999, and Deputy Director General, Operational Logistics at Army Headquarters. He has also commanded a Corps, an Infantry Division and an Independent Mountain Brigade.
General J.J. Singh is a distinguished alumni of the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Pune, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun, the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) at Wellington in southern India and the National Defence College in New Delhi.
In recognition of his distinguished service to the armed forces, General J. J. Singh has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM).
The Military Leaders Forum has been established to provide a platform for international military officials to address some of the critical issues and ideas affecting war and peace in the twenty-first century.
