Welcome to the 9th IISS Global Strategic Review (GSR).  We greatly appreciate the role that the media play in helping to share the proceedings and ideas of the IISS with the wider international community.

 

Please find below our guidelines for media coverage of the IISS Global Strategic Review including instructions regarding registration.

Advance Registration

Registration will be open until 5 September 2011.  Those wishing to request accreditation should email GSRPress@iiss.org to register their interest.  On receipt of the request, we will issue full registration details including your username and password for the conference website.  We are unfortunately unable to guarantee entry for media representatives that have not pre-registered their attendance.

 

Pre-registered media may collect their ID tag and press information from 14:00 hrs on Friday 9th September at the Press Registration desk.


Keynote Address and Plenary Sessions

All media representatives are invited to cover the Keynote Address and plenary sessions. These events are on the record. For reasons of protocol, we ask that all media representatives admitted to the ballroom for the Keynote Address remain for the duration. 

 

Space limitations at the InterContinental Hotel may require journalists to use the press room during sessions (see below) which is equipped with a live feed, work space and internet. 

 

Break-Out Groups

Where space is available Media representatives are eligible to observe the Break-Out Groups.  The Break-Out Groups are strictly off the record and can only be used for background purposes. Remarks cannot be attributed.  Please note that admission is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

 

Press Room and Press Facilities

The press room will be located in the Salon Vienne and will have work space, internet connections and a live feed of the Keynote Address and plenary sessions.

 

Journalists are asked to bring their own laptops, however should you have any additional technical requests, please contact gsrpress@iiss.org as soon as possible. 

 

If transcripts have been given to the IISS either before or after the speeches are made, we will make those available to journalists.  We do not have a transcription service.

 

Requesting an Interview

In advance of the IISS Global Strategic Review, we will do our utmost to assist you in arranging interviews with invited speakers and IISS Senior Fellows and experts; please send all requests to gsrpress@iiss.org.

 

There will be ample opportunity to request interviews during the weekend through the IISS Press Officer, who will facilitate media arrangements and direct requests to the delegates. 

 

We ask that you attribute your interview to the IISS Global Strategic Review

 

The IISS would very much appreciate a copy or link to any coverage of the GSR for archive purposes. Please email these to gsrpress@iiss.org

 

Instructions for TV Crews

There is limited space in the ballroom for the coverage of the opening address and plenary sessions.  Your space must be booked in advance by contacting the IISS at gsrpress@iiss.org  stating which sessions you would like to cover. 

 

Guidelines for Photographers and Photojournalists

During the proceedings photographers must keep to designated areas.  However, we will endeavour to provide photo opportunities for the opening address and at the beginning of each plenary. 

 

Attribution

As guests of the IISS, media agencies are asked to reference the ‘IISS Global Strategic Review’ in their reporting.  Your help in reporting on the IISS Global Strategic Review will go a long way in ensuring future events of this kind are a success.  We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter. 

 

Rights and Intellectual Property

Coverage of the IISS Global Strategic Review by the media must be carried out with the understanding that the IISS will be afforded the right to reproduce articles submitted as a result of attendance at the conference  both in its publications and on its website, and will also have the right to use images taken at the event, in generally but not exclusively the same formats, free of charge.  As a consequence, the IISS would be grateful if photographers would submit copies of their images to enable the Institute to quickly assess imagery.  We would also be grateful if broadcast agencies would submit copies of the aired footage.  Photographers and broadcast agencies can be assured that the Institute will treat such imagery and coverage with due care and will only use it for Institute purposes.

Ways to follow the 2011 GSR

The IISS is pleased to announce a variety of ways to virtually engage with the forthcoming IISS Global Strategic Review


IISS Voices, the Institute's blog, will bring this important security discussion to an online audience and will be regularly updated with news of the GSR and views from the conference floor.
