The plenary sessions (presentations and discussions) will be on-the-record. The special sessions will be strictly off-the-record.

 

Press Registration

Participants must register online and may do so from 20 July 2011 until the deadline of 7 September 2011. Those wishing to participate should email gsrpress@iiss.org and registration details will be sent to them.

Interview Requests

In advance of the Dialogue, media may request interviews with IISS staff by emailing gsrpress@iiss.org.

During the GSR,  IISS press officers will endeavour to make available the details of the public affairs or press officer travelling with the delegations to facilitate the arrangement of interviews. 

Media are otherwise encouraged to request interviews directly with delegates.

 

If you let the Press Officer know the time of your interview, she will facilitate a room location space permitting. 

Journalists who manage to obtain interviews with summit participants are free to report statements provided they have the full understanding and agreement of the interviewee.

Ways to follow the 2011 Global Strategic Review

 

The IISS is pleased to announce a variety of ways to virtually engage with the forthcoming IISS Global Strategic Review


IISS Voices, the Institute's blog, will bring this important  discussion to an online audience and will be regularly updated with news of the GSR and views from the conference floor. Shangri-La Voices will be launched on 20 May.

IISS experts and staff will be tweeting on the IISS Global Strategic Review, providing real-time commentary on the latest developments and speeches. Follow through your Blackberry, iPhone or laptop. Visit  the IISS on Twitter(@iiss_org) and look for tweets referencing #IISS_GSR.

Press Policy

Coverage of The Global Strategic Review by the media must be carried out with the understanding that the IISS will be afforded the right to reproduce articles submitted as a result of attendance at the GSR both in its publications and on its website, and will also have the right to use images taken at the event, in generally but not exclusively the same formats, free of charge.  

 

The IISS, based in London, is both a limited company in UK law and a registered charity. It has offices in the US and in Singapore with charitable status in each jurisdiction.

 

GSR 2011 Press Policy

Visa Requirements

Foreign nationals require a valid and accepted travel document to enter Switzerland. In addition, a Visa is required in certain cases. Please see the list of countries to determine if you must obtain a Visa. To apply for your Visa and for further information please visit:  www.bfm.admin.ch/.  If it is decreed that you need a supporting letter to complete your application, please send a request to gsr@iiss.org.

Accommodation

The InterContinental Hotel

Preferential rates have been arranged for GSR participants at the InterContinental Hotel. To reserve a room at the special rates, please download a copy of the booking form below and return it directly to the hotel by fax.

 

If you have not already booked your accommodation, we recommend that contact the hotel at the earliest convenience as rooms are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Check-in time for accommodation at the hotel is from 14:00 hrs and residents are asked to check out before 12:00 hrs. Late check-outs can be arranged but are subject to availability and chargeable.

Breakfast is included in the accommodation rate and is served in the Woods Restaurant; room service is available but will incur a full charge.

Dr Henry Kissinger delivered the Keynote Address 'Power Shifts and Security' at the 8th Annual IISS Global Strategic Review (GSR), which ran from 10-12 September 2010 in Geneva.

The IISS has compiled a report on the 2010 Global Strategic Review containing details of the plenary sessions and a flavour of the dicussions in the break-out groups.

 

Writing in the Financial Times, Phillip Stephens reflected that discussion at the GSR showed how '..the clean, clinical lines of cold war bipolarity have given way to something a lot messier..'
