The Third IISS Global Strategic Review: Evolving Threats, Rising Powers, and Systemic Change
The IISS is delighted to announce the start of a new three year cycle of ‘Global Strategic Reviews (GSRs)’, the successor of our Annual Conference for Members. The 2005 event will take place 16-18 September in Geneva and the conference base will be The Intercontinental Hotel. With generous support from the Swiss government and the private sector, further GSRs will take place in Geneva in September 2006 and 2007.
Following a review of the Inaugural GSRs that took place in London and Washington in 2002 and 2003, the IISS has now settled on a format for the new cycle of GSRs. Plenary presentations will be made primarily by major political figures who we hope will use the occasion to make major policy statements. Break out groups will focus on up to four elements of the Institute’s current research agenda and involve IISS staff and members contributing to IISS work in discussions to refine research work. This split format will serve to present to the wider IISS membership the views of major political figures on current issues and to engage the membership as a whole in important areas of the Institute’s research work.
The 2005 IISS Global Strategic Review will have as its overarching theme: ‘Evolving Threats, Rising Powers and Systemic Change’. These themes will be addressed in both plenary and break-out group sessions.
