Major IISS conferences and lecture series held since 2007
  

  • IISS Middle East Lecture Series The IISS Middle East Lecture Series is a cycle of high profile lectures examining topics dominating Middle Eastern politics. Each meeting comprises a lecture followed by an informal question and answer session, attended by 50-70 experts from government ministries and organisations, think-tanks, academia, media, NGOs and business leaders.
  • Bahrain Global Forum The 2010 Bahrain Global Forum (BGF) provided a unique opportunity for leading economic and financial actors to convene with policymakers and strategists from the worlds of defence and national security and debate and analyse the impact of the latest macro-economic trends on international affairs.
  • Strategic Perspectives on Latin America On 3-5 August 2009 the IISS took part in an international seminar on Strategic Perspectives on Latin America held in Santiago, Chile. The seminar was hosted by the Chilean Army and its military research and training centre, CESIM, with the participation and collaboration of the IISS and CEIUC, the Centro de Estudios Internacionales of the Universidad Católica. The event brought together a select group of high-level government ministers, senior military officials and leading academics.
  • Global strategic challenges as played out in Asia On 1-3 June 2009, IISS and the Japan Institute for International Affairs convened the second IISS-JIIA Tokyo Conference. Held at the International House in Tokyo, the forum brought together 50 scholars, senior policymakers, military officials and journalist from ten countries to exchange views on the theme of Global strategic challenges as played out in Asia.
  • Korea Forum The Korea Forum marked the 50th Anniversary of the IISS and the Inauguration of AIPS and was held in Seoul on 26-28 September 2008 on the theme of Korea in the Emerging Asian Power Balance. At a time of political transition in Korea and several of its major partners, along with dynamic changes in the regional and global security environment, the Korea Forum provided a comprehensive strategic assessment of Korea's key bilateral relationships and the nations role in regional and global security.
  • IISS/INSS Israel-Europe Dialogue On 28-29 May 2008 the IISS hosted a special day and half  on the 'Israel-Europe Dialogue' in conjunction with the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) of Tel Aviv. This event pulled together a select group of the top Europe-based academics and policymakers to discuss some of the key geostrategic themes in the Middle East today in an off-the-record setting with a select group of Israeli academics.
  • IISS-Citi India Global Forum The IISSCiti India Global Forum on India as a Rising Great Power: Challenges and Opportunities was held in New Delhi on 1820 April 2008. At a time when India's economic growth drives greater engagement and influence in the world, the IISSCiti India Global Forum provided a comprehensive strategic assessment of Indias rise as a great power. The Forum discussed the key issues where economics, business, politics and security converge.
  • Military Leaders Forum The Military Leaders Forum has been established to provide a platform for international military officials to address some of the critical issues and ideas affecting war and peace in the twenty-first century.

  • Security Sector Reform in Southern Africa Forum Proceedings of the third Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and IISS workshop on "Security sector reform in Southern Africa", held on 8-9 November 2002
