Expertise: South Asia, Economics

30 seconds with Dr Baru:

The IISS Bahrain Global Forum is well timed to take stock of the impact of the Great Recession on the world economy. The experience and response of the newly industrialising economies of Rising Asia, especially China and India, has been vastly different from that of developed industrial economies. While China and India are expected to drive global growth they have their own internal constraints that limit their capabilities. Increasing intra-Asian trade and capital flows is changing the structure of global integration with consequent geo-political consequences. On the other hand, the creation of G-20 has raised expectations of the role that emerging economies like China, India, Brazil and ASEAN can play in the management of the global economic system. I will be discussing these issues and more at the IISS BGF.

30 Seconds with Dr Andrew Parasiliti:

The purpose of the first annual IISS Bahrain Global Forum is to examine how changes in the international financial system and economy affect local, regional and international relations.  The role of the United States, including and especially its role in the Middle East, is critical to the development of sound global policies and institutions to deal with the impact of geo-economic changes.
