30 seconds with Nigel Inkster:  Shifts in the global distribution of economic power are likely relatively quickly to translate into shifts in political and military power. We are likely to see a transition away from the current situation in which the USA provides international public goods in the security arena towards a more uncertain system in which no one country does this. Developing a new model which balances the interests of status quo powers and newly emergent powers is likely to be one of the major challenges of the 21st century.

30 Seconds with Michael Crawford:

The global economic downturn has had a considerable impact on the Gulf states and some other countries in the region. The IISS Bahrain Global Forum offers an opportunity to set that experience against the background of the broader world economy and to look at ways of improving both international and regional policies and structures to create greater resilience. New arrangements need to reflect global power shifts now under way.
