As Executive Vice President of RAND Corporation, Michael Rich has been that institution's second-ranking officer since 1993. He also serves as chair of the Pardee RAND Graduate School Admissions Committee. Rich was formerly vice president and director of the RAND National Security Research Division and director of the RAND National Defense Research Institute, the federally funded research and development center that provides research and policy analysis to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Unified Combatant Commands, the defense agencies, the United States Marine Corps, and the United States Navy. He was also responsible for national security studies sponsored at RAND by the intelligence community, Department of Energy, and private foundations. He has published numerous classified and unclassified RAND reports, including studies of the B-2 acquisition strategy, trends in weapons acquisition, multinational coproduction of aerospace systems, various readiness issues, and other topics related to national defense. He previously served at RAND as Deputy Vice President, Director of the Defense Resource Management Program. He holds a JD from the University of California, Los Angeles.
