On Friday, 25 September, the IISS-US hosted Dr Bahman Baktiari, Director of the Middle East Center at the University of Utah. Dr Andrew Parasiliti, Executive Director, IISS-US and Corresponding Director, IISS-Middle East, moderated the event. Dr Baktiari discussed developments in Iran since the 12 June Presidential election and their implications for US-Iran relations. The three main points addressed were: the effects of the election on Iranian foreign policy; the implications for the US; and the potential impact of sanctions on Iran’s decisions regarding its nuclear program.
Dr Baktiari is Director of the Middle East Center at the University of Utah. He travels frequently to Iran and is the author of Parliamentary Politics in Revolutionary Iran: Institutionalization of Factional Politics (1996) and many articles on Iranian politics.
