Management Internship
The
International Institute for Strategic Studies – US is currently seeking volunteer
full-time and part-time interns to support the management of its office in
Washington, DC. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, but loosely
correlate to the seasons and academic terms.
To be considered for the Summer 2012 session, kindly submit a complete application no later than 1 March 2012.
Requirements:
Successful
candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Be a graduate student in an MPA, MPP, or Nonprofit Management
Certificate Program;
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or the
equivalent from a non-US institution;
- Be eligible to work in the US. IISS-US regrets that it
cannot assist with procuring visas or entry permits.
In
addition, an interest in international affairs is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Interns
will support the Managing Director in the administration and operation of the
IISS-US office, including financial management and accounting, legal compliance,
facilities maintenance coordination, IT coordination, media outreach,
development, and event planning and management. Successful applicants can
expect to gain direct exposure to the work and management of a leading
international think-tank.

Operations and Research Internship
The International Institute for Strategic Studies – US is currently seeking volunteer full-time and part-time interns to support the management of its office in Washington, DC. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, but loosely correlate to the seasons and academic terms.

- Be at least a college sophomore in good standing or a graduate student;
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent from a non-US institution;
- Be eligible to work in the US. IISS-US regrets that it cannot assist with procuring visas or entry permits.
Responsibilities:
Interns will be required to provide administrative and operational support, conduct research, and assist with event and media management. Successful applicants can expect to gain direct exposure to the work and management of a leading international think-tank. On top of the required duties, interns may also have the opportunity to engage in research for the Armed Conflict Database, focusing on conflicts in 1) Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia), Central Asia (excluding Afghanistan) and the North Caucasus; 2) Sudan (Darfur and South Sudan), the Central African Republic, and Chad; and 3) Lebanon, Syria, Israel-Palestine, Turkey, and Morocco. The interns selected for this assignment will preferably possess superior knowledge of, or research experience in one or more of the regions listed. Relevant foreign language skills are preferred, but not essential. Those who wish to be selected for this assignment should state this wish in their cover letter.
