Since 2005, Japan, Australia, and the United States have been engaged in "The Trilateral Strategic Dialogue", an exercise designed to bring America's strongest Asian ally (Japan) and its closest ally (Australia) together as strategic partners. Southeast Asians are somewhat sceptical of its purpose and are concerned that it could detract from other regional arrangements, specifically the ASEAN Regional Forum. Professor Simon's talk will ask is the Strategic Dialogue important, and are Southeast Asian concerns warranted?
