13 July 2005 - Dr Rhoderick Chalmers - Nepal: Responding to the Royal Coup

 
On 13 July 2005, the IISS hosted a Special Round Table Discussion with Dr Rhoderick Chalmers, Deputy South Asia Project Director, International Crisis Group, Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr Chalmers spoke on 'Nepal: Responding to the Royal Coup'.

Dr Chalmers is responsible for International Crisis Group's reporting and analysis on Nepal's Maoist insurgency. Before joining International Crisis Group, he worked as Editor, Contributions to Nepalese Studies and Visiting Fellow, Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies, Kathmandu, from 2003 to 2005. He completed his PhD in modern South Asian cultural history from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.
 
Dr Chalmers is the author of several articles, published in the Financial Times, Kathmandu Post and other local and international newspapers.  He has also contributed to several books, including 'The Nepalis in Northeast India' (2003) and 'Language and National Identity in Asia' (forthcoming).
