Born in 1955, Councillor of
State Jean-Claude Mallet is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, agrégé
in letters, and a graduate of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration.
He began his career in 1985 as an auditor to the Council of State while also
serving as lecturer at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris and as a
consultant for strategic issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ analysis
and forecasting centre (1985-1986). He served as policy officer to the
Ministry’s Legal Affairs Director until 1989, when he was appointed Officer for
the coordination for the free movement of persons in Europe, then delegate for
International Relations at the Ministry of the Interior.
In early 1991, Jean-Claude Mallet joined the Ministry of Defence, first as
technical advisor for international and strategic affairs, then as director of
strategic affairs (1992-1998). In 1998, he was named Secretary-General for
National Defence, a position he held until 2004. In July 2007, the
President of the Republic appointed Jean-Claude Mallet president of the White
Paper Commission on Defence and National Security, a post which was extended
until October 2008.
Jean-Claude Mallet is a Knight Officer of the Legion of Honour and a Knight of
the National Order of Merit.
