Rolf Tanner, PhD
Dr Rolf Tanner is
currently Deputy Director of Global Media Relations with Swiss Re, the no. 2 in
the global reinsurance industry. From 2006-2010, he was Head of Political &
Sustainability Risk Management at Swiss Re. In this function, he developed the
firm’s political risk infrastructure and terrorism risk assessment
capabilities. He also designed and implemented a Group-wide reputation risk
management framework and co-led an internal task force on sanctions- and
embargo-relevant issues. Rolf joined Swiss Re in 2002. Before that, he was a
partner with a consulting boutique in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Since 2009, Rolf has chaired
the Business Advisory Board of swisspeace, a practice-oriented peace research
institute based in Berne, Switzerland. From 2004 to 2009, he acted as
Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board of the European Futurist Conference in
Lucerne, Switzerland. He also teaches at the University of Zurich, specialising
in the history of revolutions.
Born in 1962, Rolf
holds a PhD in history from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and did
post-graduate studies at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Georgetown
University, Washington DC, and the Australian National University, Canberra. He
also has an Executive MBA. He has published extensively on political risk,
sustainability issues, and the future of the media.
