PROJECT COORDINATOR (TWO-YEAR CONTRACT)

The International Institute for Strategic Studies - Asia is seeking a Project Coordinator to assist in organising the IISS Asia Security Summit: The Shangri-La Dialogue. The Shangri-La Dialogue is a prestigious annual event involving defence ministers, military chiefs and senior officials from across the Asia-Pacific region, and takes place each year in Singapore. The Dialogue will next be held from 4 – 6 June 2010.
In addition, the candidate will: play a supporting role in relation to other IISS Dialogues and Forums; organise IISS-Asia’s seminars and workshops; and provide support for IISS-Asia research and fundraising activities.
The ideal candidate, who will be conscientious, dedicated and highly-motivated, should possess a 2:1 (Upper Second Class Honours) degree in Politics, International Relations, Strategic Studies, or Modern Languages. He/she must have an excellent command of spoken and written English, and should be proficient in essential computer skills such as MS-Word, Excel, Access and be capable of performing Internet searches. Meticulous attention to detail, strong organisation skills, and the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively are essential for this post.
Salary will depend upon the appointee’s level of experience. We are looking to appoint to this position in early January 2010. Though this is a fixed-term appointment, the successful applicant will gain valuable experience and direct exposure to the para-diplomatic activities of a leading think-tank with an international presence and reputation.

Programmes Assistant, Office of the Director of Studies
18-month Fixed-Term contract
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 per annum
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is seeking a Programmes Assistant, located within the Office of the Director of Studies, to provide a range of administrative, organisational and analytical support to IISS research programmes. The Programmes Assistant will principally support the IISS Russia and Eurasia Programme. The successful applicant will initially be offered an 18-month Fixed-Term contract, with the possibility of extension thereafter.
Responsibilities will include:
- Organisation of three international workshops on security in the South Caucasus
- Developing and maintaining a web page describing project activities and the Russia Eurasia programme in general
- Supporting the research and fund-raising efforts of the Senior Fellow for Russia and Eurasia
- Grant administration and reporting
· Providing ongoing support to Office of the Director of Studies in respect of grant preparation and research
Requirements:

Master’s level degree (or higher) in International Relations or a related discipline

An interest in the international relations of the Caucasus

Experience of organising international workshops/conferences

A good understanding of Russian

Excellent written and communication skills

Strong administrative skills, including project budgeting and reporting

Web management skills
